Bulldog Café

St. Bernadette School offers the opportunity for our students to participate in a Hot Lunch program on a daily basis during the school year. All meals are based on the nutritional guidelines provided by the federal and state lunch programs. The Bulldog Café follows all guidelines to ensure balanced and nutritional lunches for students.

A monthly menu is provided to the families online from which the students can select. Students may select the main entrée, which varies each day, or one of two alternates that remain the same for the week. Milk is included in the price of the lunch.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Healthy Foodservice Practices

The cafeteria has always maintained sanitary practices as part of our daily routine. Gloves are worn during food preparation, all food service surfaces are sanitized continually, a separate hand sink is used and now masks, when required, will be a daily part of our protocol. An open display for the students to make their choices is no longer an option. For sanitation purposes, each lunch will include a fruit and/or vegetable. Our kitchen is inspected twice a year and we are proud to be in good standing with the Cuyahoga Board of Health. In the effort to be “contactless “, students will now have a bar code that will be scanned for lunch payments.

Nutritious Lunches

As we have followed in the past, we meet or exceed the guidelines for the National School Lunch Program.

Our cafeteria will continue to serve a large variety of vegetables and fruits, more often fresh or frozen versus canned, to meet or exceed the required portions. Our challenge is to make sure students try different foods and to eliminate waste. We do our best to encourage good eating habits, however, our most effective resource are the parents. Encourage your child/children to sample new items. They do not need to eat a whole portion of one item just as long as they have a ½ c. total of vegetable/fruit combined. Our kitchen is peanut free. We have Meatless Mondays. The milk offered is fat-free in white or chocolate. All grains served are 100% whole grain (WG). Items denoted F/S are made “From Scratch.” Snacks, when offered, are baked or reduced fat chips, low sugar ice creams ($.60each) and juice based Slushies ($1.00)

Families that qualify for Free/Reduced Price meals may fill out the enclosed application and return it to the office (in care of Cafeteria). You may apply any time during the school year, but you must qualify before discount prices go into effect. Last year’s recipients continue benefits for the first 14 days of the school year, then reapply. If you are in the Ohio Department of Education database and are automatically approved for free lunches, you will be notified via postal mail. All information is confidential.

Lunch Accounts are available through Digital Academy:

Parents may add funds to their student's lunch account by logging into Digital Academy. Any questions, please email Miss Gilda: gmcwilliam@stbern.net.

Please note the cafeteria will deposit your check made payable to The Bulldog Café to your account at no additional charge. Any remaining balance in your account will be transferred to the youngest sibling, if applicable, or refunded.

Our Bulldog Café is a wonderful asset to our school. Your participation (whether once a week, daily or when lunches are forgotten) is vital and most appreciated.

Your input regarding the lunch program is welcomed and encouraged. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Summer Meal News

The “Sister Act” is back.

For the fourth year, Carla McWilliam will be joining Gilda McWilliam in “manning” the cafeteria (in addition to Beyond the Bell). We are third generation restauranteurs and enjoy the opportunity to work together in taking care of the school’s food needs.
